- 3:30pm — Envisioning a Post-Petroleum Society – What if life as we know it, suddenly changed? Are we prepared, ready, or interested in becoming so? Even if, as a society, we never arrive involuntarily at this crossroads, many of us ask the question daily, might there by a better way? This open forum will serve as a platform to connect like-minds, and ideas. As our community moves towards the creation of a concise plan to organize and nurture foundations already in existence, we will discuss ways and means to ensure Central Virginia’s self-sufficiency, regardless of circumstance. Offering workshops and ongoing activities throughout the day, for kids of all ages.
- Explore The Fascinating World Of Plant Identification with Blue Ridge Discovery Center– For the young, and young at heart! Participate and learn about local and native plant species, their habitats, practical uses, and identification, through hands-on creative activities.
- 11:00 am — Country Woodworking for Children with Hugh Gildea and David Montegue — Once a wildly popular past time, whittling continues to express itself through the talents of these knowledgeable gentlemen. Come try your hand!
- 1:30 pm — Butter-making with Rachel Deddens – Visit our Young Pioneers Tent and let the kids take a whirl at churning butter, the old-fashioned way! (An original allowance earner!)
- 2:30pm — Woven Wheat Doll Making with Janet Kerig of Artemisia’s Garden – Originally brought over by Scots-Irish immigrants, 21st century kids can create their very own authentic Woven Wheat Dolly. This children’s workshop is limited to first fifteen.
