Backyard Revolution is honored to be a part of the 3rd annual Heritage Harvest Festival here at Monticello and share in its objectives.
Exciting Happenings in the Backyard Revolution Tent:
-Hugh Gildea will demonstrate country woodworking skills such as whittling and basket making.
-Learn about the historic and contemporary uses of native trees in Central Virginia with hands-on activities with Devin Floyd of the Rivanna Master Naturalists.
-Ned Nelson of the Virginia Canals and Navigation Society will discuss the importance of river navigation in the local economy of the 18th and 19th centuries.
-John Buck of Musket Mart will bring along period firearms from the black powder era that he builds from scratch. These include matchlocks, wheellocks, snaphaunces, as well as flintlocks and caplocks.
-Scott Hingeley will demonstrate traditional blacksmith skills.
-The Albemarle Handweavers Guild members and Lynn Telford will spin natural fibers into yarns right before your eyes and show us how to knit with them.
-Kristen Gallagher of Nature’s Child will model Traditional Baby Wearing apparel in the common tent.
-Children’s activities will include corn husk dolls, finger knitting, and friendship bracelets – to make and take home.
-Luke Ramsey and Adrienne Young present tastes and how-to’s of Virginia’s culinary heritage with Open Fire Cooking sponsored by Ramsey Restoration.
